Last weekend, I was asked to sub in a rockabilly group that I used to play with several years ago. Most of the time I just take one bass but I decided to take two to this gig. This group only plays three slow songs during a four hour gig as everything else just rocks. We began with "Rock this Town" and never quit. Halfway through the first set, my fingers began to get sweaty and I started experiencing difficulty moving them around with the flats. They started to stick to the strings. I switched basses to the one with roundwounds and the problem dissappeared. My fingers still sweat but I was able to move them around on the rounds with little difficulty.
What can I do about this? I love noodling and practicing with the flatwounds because they are so smooth. Can I change my technique, use some kind of a powder on my hands or is this how it is to play with flats? |

Behind the ear is always a good spot for the disgusting stuff we love so well!! |

Rocco Prestia recommends actually using some hand lotion. I haven't tried that, because we're always shaking hands with people, I'll bet the right kind will actually work.

| | | | Thanks folks! I love playing with the flats so don't want to stop. I'll look into that GHS Fastfret and always have a towel handy. |

| | | | Yup, that they do..that's why I'm trying to see if there's anything I can do to keep using them. I like the smooth feel of the flatwounds but if nothing works, then I'll replace them with roundwounds. |
