I prefer through body stringing, is it ok to string a Fender P Bass through the body with EB Flats?

Some string companies warn against flats through body, due to the sharp bends.

I know LaBella warns against it, but I've strung sadowsky flats (word on the street is they're modified labellas) through body and have had no problems. You should be fine, just tune em up slow the first time to be extra safe.

I’ve run both GHS Precision flats and TI jazz flats through the body with no problems.

FIW; The GHS stayed on for almost 10 years

they are basically covering their asses against broken string complaints (for which they can't be blamed)

I've strung Chromes through-body on a 2008 MIA Jazz, and since this is the same set of flat's I've been taking off and putting back on (I switch between flats and rounds a lot) that bass for two years now, I'm pretty sure at least Chromes can handle it!

I have ran flats thru body taken them off and ran them thru my reg Fender type bridge with no issues what so ever. I'm not made of money and see no reason why to change strings that were used thru body and to now go top loaded.I just take the time to strighten out the kink from the body and string them up. I have done this with both Chromes and TI JF. Never a break or tuning issues...so yes ..it will work.

Rotosound RS77s work just fine as string through (and so do the RS88s).

Once a string has been sharply bent and then straightened out, it will be weaker at that point and more prone to break.

Really? Not true in my case. I have had the same set of chromes on two P basss for well over a year maybe 2 ...no issues. Both those sets came off a body thru bass then were put on a top string thru bridge. I have taken off strings several times on my basses and restrung them...no issues. Bass strings are way tougher and stronger than most want to belive. I gig 2-3 times a month and in almost 9 years have never broke a bass string...knock on wood

Like metalariachi, I too havew used GHS Precision Flats and TI Jazz Flats through the body with no problems. I'd rather not use them if the company doesn't recommend it.
