Flats too slippy

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

Just strung my bass with a set of Thomastik Infield Jazz flats. The sound is what I'm looking for and the tension is spot on. The only problem I'm having is that they are too slippy under my fingers, especially the G string. Can anyone suggest a remedy for this?

Cheers,

Eddie.

+1. Don't try to fix it. Since it's new, you are bound to notice it, and it'll feel strange. Just keep playing it, and let it get comfortable. One of the pleasures of round wounds is that they don't bite like rounds do, and that is part of what makes them play the way they do. Spend some time running scales and playing tunes you normally play on rounds, and in a few days it'll be mostly forgotten.

Slippery feel is one of the big pluses to flatwounds for most people. Much less finger noise and nice, smooth glissandos. You'll get used to the slippery feel, I bet, and even miss it when you play roundwounds later.
