Hey mates,
I tune in all our originals to DGCF. I love the chromes , which are hex core of course in 45,65, 80, 100. But I haven't stopped wondering about how Ti's would do. We write classic hard rock style like early kiss, maiden, priest, etc. the chromes in even the heavier gauge (50-105) are great (but a bit stiff but ok and sound great) but the TI's which are round core are praised on here but a few searches didn't say much about them in DGCF and if they'd be too floppy.
Better yet, I thought about ordering some GHS precisionwound since they are round core too like TI's are. They don't have the 45-100, but they do have 45-105 it looks like.
Anyone have the experiences in this tuning with either the Ti or GHS??? We will NOT be changing tuning by the way...
Thanks!!

I want to add that i am now thoroughly loving the Chromes ecb82 set (50-105) on my main bass, a '84 BC Rich Bich that has a SD quarter-pounder P pup. Some think chromes are a bit stiff, but in the DGCF tuning the bandmates and i are loving them. i also play with my action medium low, and let the chromes sing, not much clank, more of a Geezer Butler sound which i love! So...anyone using chromes in the DGCF tuning and if so, how are ya liking them? |

They are bright at first, i'm talkin roll the tone knob way back and dial back in as they slowly deaden nicely. the 50-105 set is noticably deeper than the 45-100 which i have on another bass. the 50-105 set just kills as these things have deadened in nicely yet still after months these things can sound bright enough with the tone knob turned up when needed. |

It took me a minute to get used to it, but I was already comfortable with 45-105 strings in that tuning. You have to really clean up your technique with that low tension especially with out any compression, but I love the sound and get lots of compliments from engineers. They might be too floppy for heavier music. I love them for roots, R&B, country. Killer fundamental! |

| | | | I used Rotosound 77's in DGCF for a while and they were great. I even dropped the D to an A for some Mastodon songs and it felt like I barely loosened it at all.

You can dig in more with those, but I like the tone of the TI's. |

| | | | I use that tuning in my prog metal band. Im using carvin (made by Labella) flats that are the 45 guage and these work in that tuning just fine. I really love these strings but they are the only flats Ive used so far so I cant compare them to others. Carvin has them for $21 if I remember correctly. I have a two year old pair on one of my basses and just put a new pair of these on my other bass. Love the sound and feel. |

GHS .045-.105: after they break in they have realy nice typical flatwound sound, tension is kinda low but O.K. and the feel is good.
Labella .045-.105: I thought they feel too smooth, so I couldn't realy grab the strings. Tension was O.K.
Labella James Jamerson: I love the deep sound of these strings, but even tuned down they are heavy to play.
Fender .050-.100: O.K. (but I like the Chromes better)
Chromes .50-.105: these strings sound and play as if they where made for DGCF..superb!
The TI's: the A string for me just feels too loose. I didn't want to make this even worse by detuning.
And some tapes:
Labella: superb!
Rotosounds: the very deep sound is overwhelming. Tension is O.K. in fact, even detuned they still feel kinda stiff. Only the tuning problem higher on the E (D) string seemed to get worse by tuning to D.
GHS: too loose for down tuning. |

Yep, I'm happy.
