flats unwinding

Sign in to disble this ad
I just installed a new set of EB flatwounds on my SR5. As I'm tuning up, the D string won't tune. As soon as I sharpen the note, it flats again. Then I notice the string appears to be unwinding underneath the adhesive covering they put over the end of the string.

Is this common, or is this just a dud?

It sounds like you got a bad string. I have never had any trouble with EB flats (or rounds for that matter). Call EB customer support and I bet they will send you another string.

it's broken,

it happened once to me when I tuned a string an octave higher by accident. the core broke inside but the string outer windings looked ok. you'll need to change it...

Thanks. I've emailed EB about a new string. Haven't heard back yet. And no, I didn't tune up a whole octave.

I didn't mean you did it, I did by tuning too hastely with a tuner while there was a lot of noise around me.

just to clear things up...
