I recently decided to try a different sting, so I put Dr Lo Riders on my bass, and IMHO I get the best of both worlds. I get the thump of flats, with the zing of rounds; they are the first string I’ve used with a hex core. I think that may be what is giving me that fat thump. I play a lot of funk, r&b, and smooth jazz, and I need both worlds, I know some people carry two basses strung with flats and the other with rounds, but that won’t work for me. I go from finger style to slap in the same song. I feel that most of your sound is in your fingers, yes the strings have a role in it, but your fingers are a big part of your tone.
