I checked out this new review youtube vid by the esteemed Ed Friedland. Although the purpose of the vid was to show off some genz benz gear, one thing I noticed is that it really highlighted the difference between flats and rounds. With a relatively transparent amp and the same lick, he goes through a whole lot of basses quickfire with different types of strings, and the difference between flats and rounds is as night and day.
So if anyone asks what the difference between flats and rounds is, refer them to this video!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTh69K9ezaU&feature=sub

It also shows (at the end) that there is no substitute for cone area!

Since I cover a lot of territory, it always changes. But I usually play flats when I'm doing country, blues, acoustic songwriter stuff, rootsy rock, etc. Rounds are for funk, jazz, aggressive rock, etc. Naturally I will break the "rules" every now and then. I'm not dogmatic about it, I just have general preferences. But I do play on flats most of the time these days. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
