Flatwound break in?

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone ever have this problem? Just put a new set of GHS Flats on my new Jazz and the low E seems to waver in and out of tune at the higher frets. Or maybe it's funny sounding overtones? I never noticed it on my other basses (same strings) Maybe the string has to settle in? Bad string? The tuner says its in tune but doesn't sound right.

One idea could be that it's your intonation and tension and such. Also the strings might be slipping on the tuning peg, I don't know about GHS but I know on some DR's they recommend crimping. Also maybe the E string is just too close to the pickup causing this wave sound you hear.

I do have the pickup fairly close to ther string. I'll try an adjustment there.

pickup too high

Hey thanks for the advise. The pickup was causing the problem. Just lowered it and it sounds great.
