flatwound for metal?

alright, i am in a band that plays deathmetal, blackmetal, metalcore and iw as wanting to try out the d'addario XL Chromes, would these work well for the styles i play?

I play a Spector Performer 4DLX.

i know a guy that gets great metal tone out of his warwick double buck corvette with chromes through an ampeg 4pro and 810

i play through a Yorkville XM200 Combo and a Sunn 2x15 Cab, i'm looking at a 200 watt Traynor tube head right now though.

Chromes have plenty of zing with appropriate pickup selection (bridge rather than neck) and judicious use of EQ, so I don't see why they wouldn't work in a metal band.

I'd say yeah. You won't get much, if any, grind or crunch but as long as you got enough lo-mids to punch through that wall of guitars then you'll be alright.

Keep the sunn 2x15 and find yourself a nice old tube head! - or better find yourself an old traynor monoblock II - keep the flats and get yer grind!

in my opinion flats with a pick get THE perfect hardcore grind when plaing overdriven bass.

but that's just my opinion - some tube grind can't hurt either

I'm sure the Ox will chime in at some point.

Flats + my b1500 haven't failed me yet though!

Steve Harris uses flats but doesn't sound anything like it.

i'm getting a 200watt Traynor tube head soon, it's an older model, used of course, but you can't go wrong with a tube head.
