flatwound not for thru body basses ?

A string distributer says that La Bella flats are not for thru body basses. Can someone tell me why?Am I only able to use round? Or is another string company okay to use thru body. I got a American Standard Delux Fender.

I wonder if they're anticipating an sharp angle, a sharp bend in the string, to make it through the body? Just guessing. That might be an issue with flats, maybe they self-destruct if you bend them too much? I don't really know.

String through body basses existed long before roundwounds, think about it.

Jesus, this thread comes up like once a week. LaBella puts a warning on their packets saying not to use (most of) their flatwounds thru-body, as the strings will break. Really they don't break every time, but it happens often enough that they put a warning label on the package.

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY OTHER BRAND.

I think it's mostly because of the silk wraps and/or taper. If they don't have an extra 1.5" or so of potential speaking length, then the string just wont fit right.

I really doubt the break angle has anything to do with strings breaking more or less.
