Flatwound Short Scale 6 String Set

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

Been searching for a flatwound, 6 string short scale set for awhile. Best I could do was find a short scale 4 string set and then add 2 guitar strings for the B and high E strings.

I find the guitar strings don't have the same roundness as the bass strings.

Any recommendations on where I might be able to find a complete set of flatwounds, short scale?

Thanks,
Jim

Not sure about the scale, but you could probably chop 'em shorter if need be: Carvin.com :: FW60
I haven't tried 'em myself yet, but was gonna when I have a place to ship them to in a few weeks... I was a little weirded out by how cheap they are from Carvin (thinkin they may not be that great) but then I noticed that they sell LaBellas for dirt-cheap too.

Probably will check them out. I have an old Micro-Frets Baritone converted to a 6 strings bass that I am searching for that sweet sound.

Thanks,
Jim

SC...

That is what I use now except the short scale 4 string set from ROTOSOUND and then try and match it up with 2 guitar strings. I just might have to go with fatter flatwound for the two top strings and keep them flatwound. That is really tuning these babies down low (like a normal G string, tuned down to an E and a normal D string tuned down to a B).

I am not a string expert only to say that I have been told that cutting long scale strings down for short scale was "NOT" the way to go. Dunno why but I do know the short scale strings I am using now has that green thread at the end of the strings and I don't even know what is the benefit of that thread?

Haven't found a flats set, but here is a 6 string short scale set from LaBella:

LaBella's Flats are available in short scale.

They are the same price as the long scales, just need to mention you need shorts...
