Sign in to disble this ad
It would be good do have a comprehensive list of flatwound strings.

On a 1 to 10 scale with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest
Please rate bass strings. I will start with the ones I am familiar with.

Thomastik Infeld jazz flats-1

Pyramid Gold-4.5

DR Hi Beam Flats-5.5

D'Addario Chromes Medium 50-105 - 8

8 for D'addario Chromes? Not enough scale for Fender flats

Fender 9059's 50-100 - 15

Something I wish for...

Wouldn't it be nice if all string makers published the information regarding the tensions on different sets the way D'Addario does for comparison purposes?

For example:

http://store.daddario.com/category/1...ng_Scale_40-95

http://store.daddario.com/category/1...g_Scale_40-100

http://store.daddario.com/category/1...g_Scale_45-100

http://store.daddario.com/category/1...g_Scale_50-105

+1 to wishing makers published their strings' specifications.

But for that, are you ranking actual tension (in pounds of 'pull') or perceived "stiffness"("feel")? Both are useful.

Yes, I do agree "tension" and "stiffness" are both important considerations, although I would imagine "stiffness" is a lot more subjective and harder to measure in specific numbers than "tension".

Good point!

I don't see any objective standard coming in: we can't even get tension info from the makers.

Using that scale, if Fender are 15, Roto are 20. If Chromes are 8, Dean Markley would be around 10-12.
