Why aren't flatwounds more popular? just put my first set on my p bass ....think they sound great and feel even better. haven't tried them thru an amp or gigging yet ...just headphone set up. They seem so much cleaner rattle and buzz wise.

| | | | Funny you should post this... I just put flats on my jazz and came here to post about how much I like them. I picked up a cheap set of Fender 9050MLs and they feel and sound great. |

I brought in 5 different basses to record with recently, and on every track I'd give a run through with each bass to find the best tone for the particular song. The consensus between all my bandmates was that the P with flats sounded the best on every track but one (which the StingRay won because we needed a HiFi bass tone). Flatwounds just work. They put the bass right where it's often needed in a mix, they add warmth to the track, and they fill the mix just right. |

And they lived happily ever after...

I learned long ago that there is only one way to get that tone. Seventy-five percent of my collection has round wounds on it, but I always have one or two strung up with flats.
You play long enough, in enough situations, you learn.

I can almost imagine a group of musicians hanging around a malt shop asking "why dont more people use roundwounds?"

But those I've done no one has ever asked me to change strings. In fact no one has ever asked me what strings I use or to alter my tone.

A few months ago I got my 5 string custom jazz bass, put steel rounds on it. Then changed them for TI Jazz Flats. Not intending to go back. Cleaner, warmer, deeper, easier. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
