Flatwounds with Active EMGs?

Sign in to disble this ad
Does this combination work well at all?

I have a Tokai P bass with An Emg P pup. I want to put some Optima gold Flatwounds on her. Looking for the Iron maiden esq sounds.

I heard from a slightly outdated old man that the combination of actives and Flats arent terribly great. I usually take his opinions with a grain of salt though.

Are there any clips on the net of hot Active pups with flats?

Cheers. Rob.

I used to have that set up (Fender P and active EMG) and it sounded really nice. I also had flats on a Stingray, which has an active pickup and that sounded great too.
