Flatwounds on Alembic? Anyone tried it?

Sign in to disble this ad
i've got a '77 series 1 short scale that i use as my main bass in my band. i was wondering if anyone here has ever tried flatwounds on an alembic? the band i play is kinda like a southern rock +Zeppelin + Otis Redding kind of thing. would it fit that application? just wondering 'cause i saw where john paul jones once quoted that hw thought he "lost half the bass" when he tried flats. any experience?

Ya I think flats would fit in very nicely with southern rock. Just try it and see for yourself. Flats aren't that expensive. I have a set of chromes on my p bass and I really like 'em- they just keep getting better with age too.

I have D'Addario Chromes on my Alembic Series II. It's great! I had TI Jazz flats for a while, but I really did not care for the sound. Too midrangey for that particular bass. Maybe because mine has the graphite neck. The Chromes sound great on it though.

If you ever want to part with your '77 because flats don't work on it, I'm your man.

I play TI flats on my Orion 5, and I know a guy that exclusively plays flats on his Alembics, he switches between a few different types, but Chromes and TI's seem to be the two he uses most.
