Flatwound's for a Artcore

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought a short scale Ibanez Artcore and the scale is 31" but the distance to the tailpiece is about 33 1/2". Now we come to the problem, I bought a set of D'addario short scale strings but they were too short the wound end came almost to the first fret. I then dug out a set of D"addario long scale and they are too long the fat part of the string gets at least one turn on the post and they don't look very good at all. They tune well and sound great its just the look.
Are there any medium scale fleatwounds out there??
Thanks.

To determine what string length (not scale length) an instrument wants:

You might be able to trick the Longs into fitting your bass. A cylinder between where the ball end & the tailpiece can help (can also look ugly: up to you). I've had to squeeze some B strings to have them fit into a tuning machine: Vice Grips & patience.

I think it would be safe to email or call the good folks at Ibanez to see what they would recommend. I have a short scale (30 inch) Regal resophonic bass with a trapeze bridge, which requires a string longer than what the actual scale length is. While actually having a 30 inch scale, it needs to use long scale 34" strings. Also, my trapeze bridge only fits up to about a .98 to .100 gauge string set. Everything else is too thick.

I use a .40-.95 GHS Precision Flatwound set on mine.
