Sign in to disble this ad
i dont want to lose the tension on my fender flat Ms! im using a 99 mia jazz

ernie ball seems like a decent choice but not sure of the tension

TIs have been described frequently as "muddy" or "wolly"

ghs? or rotosound sells single B's.........

Chromes 105-50 can work ok BEAD. But even better would be the 5 string set and throw away the G string.

My favorite is get the 105-50, buy a 132 and don't use the 50. But it is stupid expensive, I think a single 132 is $20. I wouldn't do it unless you already have a set of chromes.

You won't get the tension of the Fender Ms, but you will get a nice tension.

why are sizes of Bs so much larger relative to other strings? since they are all tuned the same amount apart, you would think there would be the same amount of difference in size.

the sizes seem to jump from 90s-100s to 130+

also, why is 132 so popular as a b string size? its somewhat of an odd number

I believe it is to get more tension. More mass = more tension.

because it provides just enough of a nudge, to get the tension just right.

I wouldn't mind, playing with a 132.

I wouldn't consider a midrange tone to be muddy or woofy. Larger strings will have more low end, which can be muddy if EQed that way.

Considering the life span of most flats, I don't think it's too unreasonable of an expense to buy a five string set, and throw out the g string (or save it.... 'cuz you never know).
