Flatwounds on a defretted Ibanez SR500

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently defretted one of my Ibanez Soundgears. This is now the only fretless own. I am used to playing mostly fretted basses with roundwound nickel alloy and/or stainless steel strings. I currently use GHS Bass Boomers heavy gauge: 135, 115, 95, 85, 75. But I have no idea where to start with flatwounds. The bass will be playing a variety of styles, so the tone will need to be versatile. Any help/opinions will be greatly appreciated.

I have used two differnt sets of flats on my 5 string Carvin fretless. The first was a set of D'Addario Chromes and a set of GHS Precision Flats (You have to by a 4 string set and order the B seperately). Both were excellent and I would use either of them again if i go back to flats on my five.
I am highly impressed with my TIs I have on my Precision reissue. I'd imagine a set of those on a 5 string would be quite nice as well.
