After a year of using rounds for tuning to drop c I think I'm gonna try some flats. I have a set of ti's on my pbass tuned to standard and really like the tension. What flats would be about that tension tuned to cgcf? I've been using a rotosound 5sting set with the low b(.125) tuned up to c and the c string feels really tight.

Thanks in advance

Chromes are a good higher-tension higher-output string. I'd say a .105 set of those would be a pretty good bet to not get too floppy tuned way down like that -- but I have only drop-tuned mine to a D on the E, so I can't say from experience.

You might wanna give Labella's a shot. Ed Friedland has them on a Stingray:

"I put the meanest, heaviest, stiffest flatwound known to man on there - LaBella "1954" originals."

I get my strings from bassstringsonline.com:

Flatwound Electric Bass Strings from Bass Strings Online.

Tber SLaPiNFunk is the owner and he might have a better idea of what would fit your needs.

Rotosound Steve Harris signature set or 50-110 (basically the same thing sans the silk colors).

To get CGCF out of flats hrmm....

Rotosound Steve Harris is a good suggestion... Especially if you want a lower tension feel like the T-I Jazz Flats...

At the moment I am personally using LaBella 1954 Originals (The Jamerson Strings)...
.052 .073 .095 .110

I tune Eb Ab Db Gb.. If they are tuned D G C F they feel pretty close to the T-I tension. I havent tried tuning the .110 down to C though...

Another area to explore is using a B string and tune up to C... and a heavy set of strings for the top 3... Few of the string brands sell singles of the basic 4 string sets, but there are a couple that do.

.055 .070 .090 .126 would be pretty cool for your tuning.

I have Fender flats on a 35" 5 string and if I drop the B to A it craps out. No definition.

This is what I use to tune to C standard. The tension is pretty good.

Tune up to standard and my neck starts to bow!

Correction, I actually use the 77's. They are great strings. I love them for downtuned stuff.

I use LaBella Deep Talkin' flats for standard stuff.

Kusabi, have you received and tried the 77s out? I'm thinking of buying them myself for drop-C tuning.

I know you didn't ask me but I thought I'd chime in. I like my 77's for C standard. The tension is actually similar to normal rounds tuned to E standard.

They are actually pretty bright strings and not the most pedal friendly.

I use Chromes (.105) for CGCF tuning on my Geddy Jazz and the tension is great. The combination of the thick/smooth strings on the thin\glossy neck feels awesome. Almost like it's all made of glass...if that makes sense.
Maybe I'll give those Rotos a try next time I change strings. My Chromes have been on for over a year.

This would be my suggestion, too.

Thanks for your input. I think I should try these out myself after all... I don't use any pedals, only my P-bass straight in my Orange AD200B and 2x15 lightweight TKS Engineering cab.

Feels awkward though, today I play 50-70-90-125 nickel plated steel rounds in CGCF (D'addarios) and the tension is pretty much perfect. But maybe flats have more tension than ordinary nickel rounds?
