Flatwounds for Eastwood Classic 4

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm very close to picking up an Eastwood Classic 4. If/when I do I'll probably order a set of flats for it. So....do these take short scale or do they need medum scale strings?

I'd also like any opinions on makes/styles. I'll likely be looking for a set with at least a .105 E string and will be using a pick appx 80% of the time to get a classic 60's sound (surf/British invasion/etc). At the same time I'd like at least a moderate amount of sustain (relative to the style, of course).

Bonus points for anyone who has played a Classic 4 in a band setting and wants to share some thought on the instrument in general.. Thanks!

Hey, Erik -

I would recommend the Thomastik JF324 set. Short (32") scale, which will fit the Eastwood perfect. Plus, the guages seem to be what you're looking for, especially in the E string:

43-56-70-106.

GREAT set of flats, sound great either using a pick or playing fingerstyle. A little on the pricey side, but these will sound awesome for years, so it's worth the investment IMO. I have a set on my short scale Gibson EB-0 and a regular 34" set on my Squier VM Jazz.

The cheapest price I could find on these is about $50 shipped (unless someone knows of someplace that's cheaper). Here's the link: http://bassguitarstrings.us/store/pr...cat=260&page=1

Hope this helps. Good luck!

How about these strings feel on Classic 4?

I'm about to receive this same bass and got curious about the length I should use on it.

Thanks.
