Flatwounds good for 60's sound?

i am in a band that does 60,s type stuff, the animals, rolling stones... should i put flatwounds on my bass? i cant afford a hollowbody... would flatwounds help give better 60's british rock type sound? any suggestions? thanks!

Indeed. Check out the electric bass string forum(this is double bass). In fact, do a search there and you will find thousands of posts on the subject.

I'd use Flats for 60's anything.

But for a few very notable exceptions, flats are THE sound of the 60's. McCartney, Wyman, Bryan Chamdler, all used flats. Probably THE sound you are looking for if you want to sound like these guys.

La Bella's 760FL set, maybe D'Addario Chromes 45-100 set. Put them on, leave them on.

Pyramid, Rotosound, Fender, La Bella will all get you the sound you're looking for in my opinion. They all have their subtle differences though, just try them all out over time and see which you like best. Oh...and never throw a set of flats away after you're done with them.

there seems to be a few different types of chromes... any suggestions? i need long scale. thanks!

Agree 110%!! I'm putting chromes on most of my basses now. The sound is amazingly 60s and my fingers love me again, GET CHROMES!!
