I bought a lightly used 2003 MIM fretless jazz and it arrived with flatwounds that have red silk on both ends. They seem like light strings but have decent tension. What brand of strings could these be? |

Cheers... | Perhaps the OP would like to purchase another set? I don't see how your post is relevant to anything either.
OP, it sounds like TI flats as previously mentioned. TI's are not "floppy" as some would lead you to believe, but they are not "high tension" feeling either. Roto's IME are pretty tight feeling while the TI's (my personal favorite flat) have what I refer to as a "chewy" feeling. Others on the board have called it "supple." |

Others on the board have called it "supple." | These are definitely not high tension but they're not floppy either. I have a set of 45 - 100 Chromes on my other bass and those have noticeably higher tension than the strings I'm talking about here. The red-end strings are smooth to the touch and the windings are right against each other, but they're quite flexible.
TI's, then?
I'm just curious what I got because I like them and want to get a set for my other bass. |

Roto's are very bright in colour, and you can kinda feel the winding on the low strings.
Kinda like the difference in colour between nickles and steels. |

Kinda like the difference in colour between nickles and steels. | I'll take a better look at them for color. These are completely smooth on all the strings, unlike Rotos. I had a set of Rotosound Steve Harris flats and you could see and feel the gaps between the windings on the low strings. I'm also going to compare the strings size-wise to some other strings I've got, because I know TI's have weird gauges. |

Example: SIT's come with black silk on both ends and so do Fender 7250's. Fender 8250's come with gray silk, though. You get the idea. |
