Flatwounds - what gauge to get?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought an Epiphone Jack Cassady model bass and want to put flats on it. I've been using Dean Markley round wound ML guage (45-105) for years and just got a set of Fender flats light guage (45-95). I haven't put them on yet. Wondering what difference will be in the E string. Should I get ML (E-100) of M (E-105)? Will those be too heavy?

I'd like to know this too. I just order a set of GHS 95s. I had heard that flats can pull a lot harder, so I got the thinner gauge to maybe balance out the difference. My action is a little high too, so the last thing I wanted was for it to go any higher.
