What I'm trying to say is that it makes it easier for me to control. It feels more natural, and like I said for playing metal riffs and such, it feels as though the strings are flopping right back into my fingers. It gives alot of options for playing too; if you have to do quick 16th notes and shiz, you have to play closer to the bridge where they're tighter; usually I play on the neck pickup where it's a solid balance. If I play right off the bottom of the neck (for dub and reggae), it IS much harder to play fast, but slow reggae lines are fine.
Your reaction is how I feel when I see dozens of threads asking how to tighten up strings and which basses have the tightest B strings; the B on my 6-string is currently tuned down to A (AEADGC), and
feels slightly off from the upper strings, but the tone fits right in, doesnt sound off at all. Having the looser strings makes it feel like the lower notes resonate longer, or pound in deeper, something like that...its all in preference, so don't think just cuz the majority likes tight strings thats "right", as this thread proves, alot of people like floppy strings.
