fluffy strings

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,
I just bought a second hand Ibanez SRT805, and the strings have sort of a fluff coming off the strings. Anyone have any idea what this is. I want to avoid buying another set the same as these.

It's not very old so it might have the original strings - the Ibanez web site says:
Quote:
.045/.065/.085/.105/.130
(ELIXIR NANOWEB MEDIUM 14302)
but I think they are a heavy guage.

Brett

It is Elixers are notorious for 'shedding' especially if you use a pick.

LMAO, Yes the elixers furrier then the average teddy bear if you lkeave them on too long. Not thats gotta hurt the music folks. Fuzzy stuff blocking and interfering with the strings vibration.

"Does not" quiups vampyrebunny as he paws the bass strings like hes on acid while creating odd fluffy scraping sounds.

I dont like elexirs feel or sound. Not at all like a bunny. And I certainly dont want strings (I use a pick all the time) that start looking like the need combing or brush. Lol.

I agree, "Off the shopping list". Lol.

I put Elixirs on almost all my basses and love them.

Super smooth, silky lows and powerful mids with just enough highs to satisfy me.

Add to the fact that they never seem to wear out and don't make any string noise and if they grow kitty fur - that's just a good conversation piece for me.

SurferJoe46, do you use a pick? I'm with darkstorm, I use a pick and I don't like the feel of the Elixirs. I thought that was to do with the gauge but I think it's the Elixirs. I don't know about the sound as I'm still getting used to the new (second hand) bass.

I don't know much about bass strings. I'm one of those guys who never changes his (bass) strings, that's got more to do with laziness and not wanting to mess things up, not some big concern about tone. In fact I don't even how to string Fender style machine heads - you have to cut the string and stick it inside it (I'll have to check youtube).
