Fodera strings?

Wondering if anyone has played with these and what they thought of them?

I might buy them if I hear good things about them - they're only $27!

I've been using Fodera strings on every bass I've owned for about the last 8 years. On occasion I've received some free sets of strings from other leading companies, and I just can't get the same feeling, tone, and lasting qualities that I get from Fodera strings. I love their Nickels...

I've been using the Vic Wooten signature five set on all my five strings for a couple years now. I've tried a few other brands in that time, and keep coming back to the Foderas. The sound great, and the price is right, too.

Switched over about 3 months ago to a set of stainless diamond series with a tapered B. Great sound and very responsive.

Thanks so much for the kind words. Give them a shot and let us know what you think! We work really hard to make these strings the equal of our instruments. Tom, Mary Alice and Rick (the three people that hand make every Fodera string) do wonderful work. In terms of pricing, if you are willing to buy 5 or 10 sets at a time (on our website), you'll save a bunch of money!!

Check out our "factory" (LOL!) here:

type of core wire

What is the composition and shape of the core wire for this type?

http://www.fodera.com/Shop/ProductDe...spx?ItemID=347

Has anyone compared this string to DR Sunbeams?

I have DR sunbeams on my fretless, Fodera Diamond Nickels on my fretted, I'd say that the sunbeams are brighter overall while the Fodera is a little more warmer.

I liked them when I used them. The 6-string Fodera heavies were on all of my basses for a year or two. I eventually went with another company's strings for tension purposes, but the Foderas definitely had a nice sound to them. Very articulate.

I use the Vic 4's on a spector and they are just so easy to play. Feel good on the hands and sound good. I have had one set on that bass for about 6 months and they still sound great. I just ordered a set of the 5'ers for my new sadowsky.(that may be a sin) but I am going to give them a shot.

Ok update: I figured I'd give the factory elixirs a shot first before I committed to the Fodera's, but the tone is just not for me I mean sure they're silky smooth but they sound dull and lifeless, soooo I ordered the Fodera Nickels! I'll let you know how they sound on the Ibby once I receive them

Tried a set of nickels (medium), loved 'em, went back the next day and bought 10 sets.

I couldn't be happier to find out they're made in-house.

I'm also glad I have one less reason to go to Guitar Center.

Just put a set of Vic's on my jazz bass last night and first impressions are excellent. The string to string balance (both tension and volume) is so consistent. The feel is very good too, and that's coming from a long time TI user.

Hey Jason, maybe you have answered this elsewhere, but how long does it take your people to wind a full set of string? Seems like it would take a decent amount of time, especially since it's done by hand and not by a machine.

I just put a set of nickels on my LEJ 5 and so far I like them alot. The first thing I noticed was the even tension and volume balance across the strings. I had another company's nickels on it and the B string was loud, but there was a significan drop in volume on the remaining 4 strings. The tone is warm, but if you dig in, they bite. I played two gigs on them this weekend, and my first and second impression is they are good strings. I purchased my set from Bass Specialties. Oh yeah, the price is right too.
