Fret clacking / string tension.

I'm a rather aggressive player and whenever i play the strings clack against the frets. I even manage to get the strings to clack against the fretboard of my fretless lol.

I've tried altering the truss rod and saddle heights. I know you're all going to suggest playing lighter or playing above the bridge pickup but i don't find either of these options comfortable and I can't get the same sound or volume as I prefer to play with.

I've decided to try more tense strings as playing above the bridge pickup, where the strings are most tense, almost eliminates the clacking. So my question is what high tension strings would you suggest, preferably a lighter gauge.

My basses are:

ESP F-404: 4 string, 24 fret neck, 35" scale
Ibanez JTKB200: 4 string, defretted 22 fret neck, 34" scale

Cheers, Rick.

It may be tough to find high tension in a light gauge, but good luck.

Low Riders are a higher-tension string than some others. Hex core strings in general have higher tension than round cored ones.

Couple of suggestions:
Raise your action to be fairly high - your hands will get used to it after a while
Turn off the treble so you won't have to hear the clack
