slap funk = stainless rounds
fingerstyle funk = flatwounds
something in between = nickel rounds or dead stainless rounds...
and as for gauges I'd prefer light ones for slapping 40-95 and mediums for fingerstyle 45-105 |

In your mind, what would you consider "funky"?
Just asking to find what you are looking for.

But for me, I get the fattest and funkiest (in an old school way) tone from fat nickelplated roundwounds. Most stainless strings sound too cold for my funk taste. They're decent for fingerstyle, but the slap sound fails to impress me when talking about really nasty, greasy funk. So I'd go with nickel rounds.
Stainless strings are great on the more modern, jazzy kind of stuff. But again, if you have the funk, you can string your bass with pretty much anything. |
