G and D Strings sound brighter...?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have had a set of La Bella 0760M's on my bass for a few months and thought that the G and D string would sound as mellow as the E and A strings over time, but they didn't... Do they have to be played in even more or do I have a bad set?

They are likely tighter than your A and E - I suspect this is central to what you're hearing.

99% of strings sold have more tension in the G and D strings than A and E. It's ridiculous and it's what drives me to buy singles.

This "really smart" girl working at guitar center--I'll just refer to her by her last name, which apparently is "Doom"--explained to me (when I told her I was looking for singles) that most people go with 45-65-80-100 strings because they're just what sound best, and that's why she uses them. OH NOW I GET IT
