G&L 2000 Strings What to use

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everybody Happy Holiday
Just scored a G & L 1994 beauty Bass I am wondering what type of Wirewounds to use. I have reaslly liked the DR boomers on my Carvin 5 string active bass. I also use Thomastik Jazz enfelds on my Warwick Corvette $$. I am thinking about getting Fenders Stainless they are very bright but need some advice.
Just trying to get a feel for the right sound. I play Blues Cover music and Rock Music.

Thank You ALL
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL

I think Nickel Roundwounds work best on these basses. L2000's are already hot & bright, and stainless strings will just add more hotness and more brightness. Not good.

I've found Curt Mangan strings to be the perfect balance of tension and subdued midrange that these basses need. A mid heavy string like Dunlops or DR Sunbeams to me do not sound right because they add more midrange to an already midrange heavy bass. I love DR and Dunlop on other basses though

+1 on Nickels on a G&L. I am almost exclusively a SS guy and have been forever, but I thought they too metallic sounding on the L2500 I played fora long time.

Sunbeams were ideal for me.

Another +1 to nickels. I've had great results with DR Sunbeams, nickel Lo-Riders and Sunbeams. The Dunlop nickels also sounded fantastic. As mmbongo said, all those strings have generous mid content, but I personally dig that.

SS on the L2x00's = unusable tone for me. Horrible.

Nickels, and it's a tone machine.
