Does anyone use any of these strings?

As I've mentioned in multiple threads, I am playing a six-string bass setup for F#. Before shooting for the .185 F# (as seen on the Dark Lord), I want to check out some thinner ones. I'm using a .145 gauge B string with the intonation set properly. I'm leaning towards these, the strings on Circle K Strings, or the ones from Conklin.

I'm going to try something between .164 and .172. Has anyone tried any of these before? Any other recommendations?

I'm awaiting delivery of a couple of sets from Garry with a .145 B. I'll post my opinion as soon as I have tried them. They have custom D and G strings though.

I'm also going to order from CircleK as soon as they come out with a .145, which I hear is happening soon.

I received my strings today in the mail. .164 F#0.

I will post a full review later on for anyone who is interested. So far, all I can say is wow! They have only been on for an hour or two, but they sound wonderful.

Good to hear this - you are the first person I've seen post about their experience with Garry's strings. I look forward to hearing your opinion of them over/in time.

I am honestly blown away with these strings. Like many other bass players, I've gone from company to company finding the perfect strings. The F#0 is incredible. It looks huge but it's extremely comfortable to play. It sounds amazing and the tension is perfect. It's not floppy whatsoever.

I had to thank Garry 100 times for the strings. They are simply beautiful. They're not too bright and not too mellow. They have a really crisp/bright sound when slapping and popping, as well as when tapping. Not overly bright like that new string sound, but just right.

When played by finger through my amp, they have the exact tone and warmth I want. I put them on, let them stretch, then played for an hour or two with and without an amp. They don't really come with that new string sound that some people love and some people hate. The only time you get that new string crunch is when you're playing on some of the higher strings. When playing on the lower strings, they are really boomy with no crunch cutting through which is perfect to me because the bass they are on is used purely for low end and earth-crushing tone. They sound just right and don't require breaking in. To me, these strings are perfect for any playing style.

Another awesome thing is that you can customize sets and get any gauges you want.

I have a few band practices coming up and I am playing a show this Saturday. I will post more about these strings after I hear them at really loud volumes with a full band.

I told Garry that I am a 100% guaranteed returning customer. Not only is he one of the most helpful people I have ever come into contact with, but his service and quick responses make doing business with him a pleasure. I've had so many questions and he answered everything with even more information than most companies would offer. Garry and I sent a good 26 e-mails back in forth regarding strings (mainly F#0) and electronics. He helped me decide what preamp and pickups would work best for me. I ended up ordering an Audere 4-band preamp and will be ordering Villex pickups soon.

The fact that he took time every day to reply to every question I had blows my mind. He also gave me additional contact information for David Meadows (Audere) and the fine people at Villex. Garry is definitely THE guy to talk to about subcontra and super subcontra basses. Not only will he get you the exact strings that you want, he will also help you make sure you order the best electronics possible for your bass.

I cannot say enough kind things about this man. He is simply a genius. Easily one of the most amiable people I've ever dealt with. The service he provides makes the strings that much better.

I sincerely recommend trying a set of these strings. It doesn't matter what gauges you want, I suggest getting on it! I love the feeling of these so far!

Excuse any repeated phrases or rambling, it's 2:35 in the morning and I didn't sleep much last night. My mind is a little foggy.

Cool that Garry was able to help you out. I had some conversations with Garry about piccolo bass strings. He knows that end of things very well too. Garry has been around a while...
