Gauge?

Sign in to disble this ad
Yo gang,

Got my 'wick $$ ('07 german if that matters) used a few months ago and I have no idea how old the strings are and they feel a little off to me, so I'd like to replace them.

How do I know which gauge strings to buy? There's so many choices out there.

I only ask because I recently restrung my Squier and find that the strings are a little too thin and the A string buzzes when I play it open (a little stuffing solved the issue for now, but I don't want to mickey mouse my 'wick.)

Thanks
~C

What are you tuning to and what's your scale length?

Standard tuning, I believe it's a 34" (Standard $$ 4 string 24 fret) scale.

'Normal' is .105 or .100 on bottom - I'd opt for the larger but I like to fight my bass some.

I agree with Knuckle_head.

In fact, I'd recommend his strings (they are linked in his signature). He's got a balanced set (Balanced 112 Standard) that sound great.
