Gauge for pressurewound on a Pbass ?

Sign in to disble this ad
First I have to say I' m more a jazz bass fan
I like around 45-100 rounds on my jazz bass

But I have bought a superb vintage style Pbass
After some research and a few try (boomers, dean markley flats and d' addario XL) on this precision bass, I think the pressure wound from GHS would be a good idea
I like the sound on the GHS video GHS Pressurewound Bass Strings - YouTube

So, what do you think about them ?

Also I' m concerned about the gauge
I' m familiar with around 45-100 on my jazz bass so I will tend to go for the 7200ml 44 58 80 102
But perhaps the 7200m is to consider (44 62 84 106) to get a better tention when picking near the neck (no bridge pickup as the jazz bass)
Thoughts ?

I prefer the ML set on my Pbass, but I like slightly lower tension. YMMV.

The .44-.102 sounds really good on my P. Tension is about right too. The E string works well with the Hipshot key as well.

You can also ask Jason at Welcome to Bass Strings Online - Your Custom Bass String Shop...

He loves Pressurewounds, and he will get you the best price on them as well.

I used to run a different brand of pressure wounds very similar to the GHS.

I tuned Eb Ab Db Gb on my P-Bass and loved them.
I used .044 .062 .082 .105

There are really only a few options for Pressure Wounds as far as gauges... You cant go wrong with either one.

But if you want a little more oomph I say go for the higher gauges.

I've messed around with Pressurewound gauges, settling on 44-58-80-106, pretty well balanced. The strings are pretty warm so I'd recommend going above 102 for the E no matter what.
