general question

So i've had the same strings that came on my Fender Jaguar for about......a little over a year. Im starting to get scared they will go out but...they look fine and sound fine also. Never really notice im going out of tune a lot.
I plan on buying some strings in the next few days but im kind of not familiar with bass strings. i played guitar on and off for around 2-3 years before i moved to the wonderful world of bass.
So...what brands are good.....how can i tell what gives me a diffrent tone...so on and so on.

I am really partial to D Addario and Webstrings myself. Also I am a flats kind of guy and have flats on 3 basses and rounds on one. The 5th has D Addario half rounds. I am also partial to light gauges!

Strings are really a iffy subject, what I like, you may hate.

Here is my current rundown-
Squier VM Jazz - D'Addario Chromes
Geddy Clone - D'Addario Half Rounds
SX Jazz - DR Flats
SX P Bass - Webstrings Detroit Flats
S101 5 string - D'Adario Rounds (for now.... )

I would hesitate to use the phrase "very good bassist" in any association with my name
