Getting the best of both worlds (drop tuning)

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got a bit of a dillema. I just got myself a brand new Geddy Lee Jazz and it's the perfect bass for me. I have it in standard tuning at the moment because my band is having a break (recording demo). When we go back to practicing I'll have to have it in drop C (CGCF).

This is where my problem comes in. I really like having my bass in standard but I will also need to have it in drop C 40% of the time. What's the best way to get the best of both worlds? Would tuning up and down all the time affect the strings/neck etc?

I wanna have the strings pretty tight also when I play in drop C. Should I just get some heavier gauge strings? I will have the bass set up by a professional luthier so should I just tell them to set it up for both tunings?

buy a second bass, or dont tune down.

going from one to the other i find will cause you to..

a.) need a neck adjustment.
b.) break strings easier
