GHS = 35" Scale?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just picked up a used Lakland Skyline 5501 for a great price. I am not a huge active electronics guy, but this bass may help change my mind...great bass. Anyways, I need to do a setup and string change and am looking for strings long enough for the 35" scale. Will long scale GHS Boomers do it? Any other ideas? The local stores by me only carry the "usual" brands (GHS, D'addario, etc) which is why I'm asking about GHS. I prefer not to order online right now. Thanks!

Not sure about GHS, but most DR strings will go up to 37.5" scale...

Boomers come in long and long scale plus. Long scale plus will fit 36" I believe

The regular GHS Boomers will fit 35" scale basses for sure, through the bridge. Through the body, I'm not sure.

Is there any difference in tone going through the bridge versus the body? I think I'd like to go through the body just because the bass has the ability, but I must admit I'm not sure of the advantages/disadvantages of either stringing methods (not enough experience). Maybe someone can fill me in...or I guess I'll just try a search.

I have had a couple Lakland Skylines, and never was able to tell any difference at all between bridge and body stringing. Same brands, gauge, everything. No difference to my ears.

Some claim a big difference, some say no difference.

Can of worms.

That was the same thing I found when I searched the subject. I guess I'll have to try both ways for myself, although I can't really see there would be any difference theoretically.
