Are GHS bassics like boomers ?

Sign in to disble this ad
I like the GHS boomers 45-100 on my 70's jazz

I would like to try the GHS Bassics 6000ml on it. The gauge is 44 63 80 102

So I know the bassics don' t have the silk inlay of the boomers. But over than that are the bassics a boomer string with different gauge ? Or is there over differences in construction and tone ?

Might want to ask Jason at www.bassstringsonline.com
He'll get you the best price on them too.

I've never used Bassics, but GHS shows them as being a good bit brighter than Boomers (which is not hard to do!) so they probably sound more like a normal nickel roundwound string.

You are probably right
In this case they will not be as good as boomers to me
I like the color of nickel plated strings when they have a good fondamental sound (GHS boomers / Fender)

Do any one experiment boomers and bassics ?

I haven't used Bassics in years, but I remember I didn't like them very well. As I recall they were a little harsher sounding than Boomers, and a little rougher on the fingers. I thought they sounded like you would expect a cheaper string to sound.

They worked, I played a gig with them and they sounded ok, acceptable but not great. If you are on a budget they will do fine, but if you can afford it get Boomers instead.

I also tried them when I was using GHS boomers some time back. Didnt like them as much as the boomers. Missed the silk wrap, lol. and like Showdown said, they seems a bit harsher sounding. Mainly in the upper treble area. That said, they could be a good choice for those who think their bass just a little bit to polite sounding. lol.
