GHS Boomers .40 - .100

Anybody use or have used these? I see comments on Boomers but not specifically this gauge. I've recently used Ernie Ball and D' Addarios, always nickel rounds in .45 - .100 or .105's but have been wanting to try something a bit lighter. I find these two very similar in tension and tone and wonder if Boomers are the same.

I hate boomers. I've always throught they sounded muddy and flat. Just no tone to them. Try DR's high beams instead.

I haven't tried any DR bass strings. I tried their guitar strings and was not impressed. I used to use Rotosounds and Dean Markley Superrounds on my jazz when I had it. Now I only play a p bass and just think nickels sound better on it. I have been tempted by Lo Riders or Sunbeams. Lo Riders wouldn't be a big change but the Sunbeams with their round core might take some getting used to.

I'm not a huge boomers fan either. I think they're really rough on my fingers.

Thumbs up

For nickel roundwounds, I like Boomers much better than DR, D'Addario, Ernie Ball or Dunlop. The "muddiness" that others hear sounds like "warmth" to me. They just sound more musical, I think. And they seem a bit less stiff than the others.

Back to the original question... I've only ever used the 45-105 gauge (and the 5-string set, which adds a 130).

I've got Sunbeams on my P-bass and they are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than any other strings I've had on that bass. They are very smooth, have an almost flatwound-like fundamental, but just enough roundwound grind to sound good for slapping, pick playing, or any other occasion where you want a slightly more aggressive tone than flats can provide. Plus, the flexibility makes them very easy to play once you adjust your technique.

I've never gotten along with Boomers, but I have a friend who loves them. Different strokes.

I actually use the medium lights and they sound really good on my p-bass. Never had a problem either.
