GHS Boomers Flea Sig Strings

Sign in to disble this ad
I am currently building a new bass for myself out of parts and am planning to put on a completely new set of strings as the ones that I have been using (rotosound 45-105 in the orange packet or stadium elites nickel plated) I have become quite disenchanted with.

So who better to trust for strings than my hero of bass Flea. The trouble is, are they any good?

GHS strings in general have a pretty bad reputation on here. A lot of experiences w/ odd overtones, strings being dead after a day, bad quality control, etc.. I've heard the Flea strings have a lot of tension, so if that's your sorta thing, go for it. I've never tried them though and that's primarily based on the fact that I love DR's

rotosounds orange packet wich i beleive are the steels have always worked fine for me, and they dont go dead for ages, just remember to wash your hands before playing and dry them well, as this will help get rid of some of the dead skin that is the main thing that makes strings go dead, also wipe down your bass strings (and the underneath) this should help lengthen the time you get out of your strings.

I use GHS Boomers and I've never had a problem with them. They sound great. The tension is no greater than the Roto's, which I used to use. I've not experience the strings going dead to quickly ever.

ok thanks. I think I will try them as I will have 2 basses, so I can always fall back on my original rotos if a problem occurs

Personally, I think that DR Lo Riders do the same thing GHS Bass Boomers do...only Better and Longer...

I'm not so sure Boomers "Die" quickly. I would say they "Mellow" quickly. It's one of the things I appreciate about them. I love that tone!

i'd have to agree with you phalex it was a mellower sound but i personally don't like that sound. And i probally played them about 2-3 hours a day over the couple of days.

I am revising this thread only to prevent pasting a new and similar one.....

I have been a long time EB Regular Slinky user (20+ years) and I picked up a couple sets of Flea Signature strings recently as they are cheap as hell relative to most other strings in Toronto ($17 a set vs. $26-30).

I must say I am VERY impressed.

I put them on my EBMM 30th Anniversary Stingray and my Sadowsky Jazz and after playing constantly for over a week, they still sound great. They are retaining their brightness nicely (I HATE dead sounding strings, so am very picky) and are very punchy.

Did I just get a couple of good packs or are these strings as good as I think they are for the $$$???

Another GHS fan here. Used them often and never had a bad result.
