GHS Brite Flats or D'Addario Chromes?

Looking at trying a flatwound set on one of my passive J basses. I'm not looking for dead sounding flats but flats with some punch to them.

Has anyone used these and could recommend one?

I've not used. Chromes, but used the GHS Brite-Flats for a long time (albeit 20 years ago). First, you need to know the Brite-Flats are NOT a flatwound string like the Chromes (and LaBella flats, GHS Precision Flats, etc.) but a modified round like D'Addario Half-Rounds. They're a round wound string with the final wrap ground to a flatter surface
They'll sound more Luke a regular round than the Chromes.

Chromes were perfect on my Lakland JO5 with Fralin pickups.

i just ordered a set of .45-100 chromes to go on my J.

Well I was going to suggest TI Jazz Flats best strings I have ever used.

Chromes are a good choice; reasonably priced too. Personally, I'm no fan of any half-round type string, including the Brite Flats.

Couldn't agree more. The TI's are the single best set of strings I've ever used. Pricey, but worth it to me.

well, that seems to be the consensus of everyone i've talked to. i need to either go with flats or stay with rounds. halfrounds just aren't worth it.
