Like the title says. Wal Mart carries a GHS brand string ( Not Boomers) that are the worst string I have ever used. They cost alittle under 12.00 but are a complete waste of money.
They are stiff as hell, go dead quick and last but not least, your intonation will be out! I didn't think this was possible for a string to drasticly effect intonation but its true. After I put them on, I was playing with the band and E, F, F#, and G on the A string sounded terrible out of tune. The worst part is my bridge will not move far enough to even set the intonation with these strings.
If you see these strings in your local Wally world avoid them at all costs. I tried to save some cash but it is not worth it.
Back to DR's for me. |

It could be that I got a bad set but I have no intention of giving them another try. I don't blame Wal-Mart as much as GHS for making these and inflicting them on musicians.
I have bought cheap strings before that were OK ( Carvins) but these were flat out unacceptable. If you see these strings run away! |

That's probably what it amounts to. As sad as it sounds though, the next bass master could right now be learning to play out in Nowheres, OK. or something, on one of those cheapo Target basses strung with GHS's from Wal-Mart because that's all he can afford. It's sad to think that genius could be fostered by relentless consumer-focused megacorps, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was happening right now.

| | | | Funny. When I was a kid Sears and Wards sold hundreds of thousands of cheap guitars and basses and the strings to with them, but I never heard anybody rant about squeezing the life out of an area of commerce or "relentless consumer-focused megacorps". They were just filling a need for less expensive gear, and that's all Walmart and Target are doing today.
If you think the GHS are crappy, you should have been around back then to try the awful Black Diamonds. |

GHS manufactured these strings and must know they are horribly sub-standard but decided to put them out anyway. Maybe because they could move alot of strings with Walmart and thats all that mattered. |

I'm pretty sure the Bassics have been around as GHS' economy line a few years longer than Walmart has carried guitars. So I don't think they're made special for Walmart. Juststrings.com has carried them for years. |
