GIBSON EB-3L: String Suggestions?

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anyone here have any string recommendations for a 71 Gibson EB-3L?

This is basically the long scale version of the EB-3.

After many tries (and $$) I finally found the strings I like best for my Fender Precision and Jazz basses. I'm hoping someone here can point me in the best direction to find strings that work better on old Gibson basses, which at this point, are new to me....

I know it will eventually boil down to personal preference, but I'd like to hear some experiences you guys are having stringing these basses before I start the string hunt...

Thanks!

Just got the bass in today... Wow, narrow neck! Seems narrower than a Jazz, but it's actually the same at the nut (1.5").

It came with rounds of some sort, but I can already tell that I'll probably be going for something a little stiffer... maybe rotosounds 77 (flats)...

That bass is a MUDBROOM! You might want to opt for a round that brings out your midrange. Try DR Nickel Lo-Riders 45-65-85-105's .

Thanks! I just ordered a set of DR Nickel Lo-Riders 45-65-85-105's yesterday, so right on with your suggestion!

I had purchased the 77 Rotos flats, but having used them before on a different bass, I decided to return them thinking they probably wouldn't be the best fit for that bass (too high tension and tone may not be best for that bass).

Thanks again.

No experience with an EB-3, but when I had an EB-4L, I got a really nice vintage tone with a set of GHS Brite Flats.
