Going to replace the Optima Gold's - would love some suggestions

Hey all,

Been using Optima Gold Roundwounds on my Custom Fretless for the last 6 months. I've enjoyed the tone, but the gold is beginning to flake off (it's been getting a LOT of playtime). In addition, I've wanted to try some different strings with the hopes of a slightly more defined B string.

Another consideration is the fact that I care about the aesthetics...i.e. all the bass's hardware is gold, and the cocobolo top and kingwood fingerboard really support a "differently" colored string (vice a "steel-colored" variety). I'm not stuck on "gold"; however, I'd like strings that somewhat match the instrument. Here's a thread that has some pictures of the bass for color comparison:

Would love some suggestions from TB'ers as I need to order another set fairly quickly!

Anybody...

Have any comment on the DR Black Beauties' B string?

I'm inclined to continue with the gold's as well unless I can find an aesthetically matched string type with a B string that might work better on this instrument.

Thanks,
Jay
