Gold strings for my 5-string Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey fellas, I've been searching around for a set of gold strings for my electric 35" scale 5-string bass guitar, but all i can find are sets for 4-string guitars made by Optima. Can anyone point me in the right direction here, or is a gold 5-string (low B) string set something that simply does not exist?

Thanks in advance!

The only gold colored 5 string set I can think of is by Aurora.

Dean Markley makes gold colored strings, but they are only fours.

I believe DR makes yellow strings that look will look Gold, but Aurora and those Dean Markley's are the only strings I know of.

They still exist, and are the Dean Markley strings already referenced.

Hi Neek,

I just happened on this forum, and I registered specially to try and help you out!

I'm a guitar player that happens to play bass as well and I've just recently got some new gold strings for my Spectorcore bass.

The Company I buy from is based in Germany, which is handy because that's also where the Optimas are made. The set you are looking for are the "2299" set which are gauged - .045 .060 .080 .100 .125 (high to low).

They do a "long scale" and a "super long scale", but even though your bass is a 35 inch scale, you will probably get away with using the 34 inch long scale, as there is quite a bit of extra string length (I cut a fair bit off of my strings when restringing, even though it's a 34 inch scale).

You might want to go with the super long scale for safety, but they are about $5 more expensive.

They are about $55 or so a set, so not cheap, but I really rate Maxima/Optima strings, myself, and have been using them for about 15 years now. They are cost effective because they last about 4-6 times longer than the nickel/stainless steel type (and I've found I almost never break strings, so they last me even longer).

Now if you are in the US, then it's a bit tricky price wise because I believe this Company charge about $25 to send orders to the US, so it's only really cost effective to buy in bulk, I find, as I usually only buy from them myself when I can muster an order of 100 Euros or more, to get free postage!

Anyway, here's the site:

Hopefully that will be of some help, as you do actually now know that they do a "low B" 5 string set. Maybe you can get them somewhere in the US, but I expect they will be a lot more expensive! It really depends on if you think they are worth the extra money (and the hassle of getting them) or not!

It's funny, I usually have to pay more money ordering guitar stuff from the US, and having to pay import duty and VAT to get what I want (I'm in the UK), but in this instance, the strings are made in Germany so I can get them at a decent price, and not have to pay any duty, as I'm already in the European Union! It's about the only time I've ever got anything out of being in the "EU"!

As TV2112 points out....you can get 5 stringer sets from Optima....I've been using them on my 4s and 5s for a good while now......excusively!
