I like thomastik-infield jazz bass nickel flats, but they are a bit light.
Fender ML steel flats are an old standby.

BTW, why do you want flats?

well, im in a little bit of a dilemna. my ibanezs sound ive hated forever, so im waiting on those darkstars.

but now i poicked up my friend's kid brother's piece of crap yamaha starter bass. the action sucks, but the tone is godly. the elctronics also suck. but it has 3 year old flats on it. its like.. thesound i hope my ibanez comes out to be almost. cept, i wanna still b able to slap and stuff. these strings r dead beyond recognition.

I use D'Addario flats on my jazz. Love the tone. As for slapping. You can do it if you really want to, but the mellow tone that flats have don't really suit slapping. (Although I do sometimes slap on flats.)

Maybe you could skip the new pickups, and buy a starter Yamaha with the same kind of flatwounds and a good setup?

OR

You COULD find out what kind of flatwounds are on your friend's bass.
BTW, I think if you would be a little more careful with typing and spelling, more people would respond.
