Good Fretless VMJ string choice?

Sign in to disble this ad
I play a lot of reggae-like bass lines. I like warm tone, and light roundwounds that aren't too bright or clanky.
I'm getting a Squier Vintage Modified fretless soon. I like the ebanol fingerboard and can't argue with the price.
The VMJ is shipped with 45, 65, 80, 100 strings. I don't like to mess with things too much, so I figured I would get a set of 45, 65, 80, 100 strings to prevent having to set-up the bass. I would like to only have to make a slight truss rod adjustment, if I even want that.
I decided on Sunbeams Medium-Light(.45 .65 .80 .100). I know they'll be good for my style of music and because I like lighter strings...

-Do you think that since these strings are the same gauge of the stock strings Fender puts on the bass, I probably won't have to set-up the bass (other than maybe the truss rod)?

-I think theres a reason Fender put on stock strings with that specific gauge...do you guys think they chose this gauge (medium-light) randomly, or because they tested different gauges, and that one is the best?

Also, if anyone else has a VMJ, what strings work for you (light, medium, or medium-light gauges preferred)

Thanks
