Hello from Germany,
what kind of strings do you use now? What are the reasons that you look for different strings?

hi man, you have so many options so most people don't know where to start.
i tried many types of strings and as i see it it depends on the type of sound you like and the feel you are looking for.
on my jazz (it's not MIM...) i liked :
* Dean Markley blasters (the nickel steel are nice as well but has less bass and more edgy treble).
* Ken smith burners
* DR - tried only Loriders and liked them
* Rotosound - Rotobass...these are my favorite strings, they have high tension, lots of bass and lots of treble.

i use only nickel because thats what I like, but you have lots of other good options.
it depends on the sound you get from the bass (pickups, woods, neck etc.), and what you are looking for (more bass, thump, more mid etc.).

i prefer for slap 105-045

try the bassplayer review about strings it has some good info over there.

good luck !

Actually it's been quite a while since I've used the bass, after moving on to 5-strings, so I'm not sure what's on it anymore. My guess would be, maybe GHS mediums.

I guess what I'm trying to find out is what guage people use, since the times I've tried to slap, it feels like I'm fighting the string with my thumb and it's not sounding unless I really "thump" it, and that's not the way I want to beat up a bass.

Thoughts?

I like the standard guage 45-105 for everything.
