Is it a good idea to sand down your strings?

is it a good idea to sand down your strings (rounds) with a high grit sand paper? i know i would have to use a heavy gauge to compensate for the loss mass.

edit note:i know about grounds and other variations so no need to recommend them.
please try to read through forum (or what you can) before commenting.

You'd be better off getting some Chromes, or other flatwounds. Sanding the strings will ruin them.

I doubt it would be possible to sand them evenly by hand, which would mean some parts of the string would be thin and some thick. It would probably not vibrate in a normal, symmetrical manner which would lead to all sorts of sonic weirdness.

This is a stupid idea, on so many levels. Just buys some flatwounds.

Soak 'em in bacon grease while your at it. That'll keep 'em nice and good.

You could do it... but what if a little piece of metal pokes into your fingers whilst playing. You'll know all about it...

The person who wrote that article is a complete idiot, as stated. 'Finger noise' is all part of the sound. In a band setting you probably wouldn't hear it!!!

I've seen some weird stuff on the internet, but that link goes into a whole other dimension of bizarre.
