Aren't tapewounds- flats with tape wound???? Or are they rounds with tapewound on 'em???? I dunno- but I DO like 'em I just got a set of Fender back tapewounds & theyre great, & a set of LABELLA tapes that are great too. Still- outta all the flats I've tried -I STILL like D'addario CHROMES best. They seem able to give a bit of twang & sound great slapped as well as a real vintage tone.

As far as darker sounding rounds.... what about COATED D'addario EXP's - they're a li'l darker sounding & stay sounding good for a long time. They def. sound darker than the DR coated, Tho I've not tried the 'polyweb' Elixir coated -have tried Elixir NANOWEB- they're darker than reg. rounds but are darn good, pricey, & IMO not as dark as EXP's.

+1 on SIT Silencers. Not quite flat, not quite round.
