Getting a buddy some strings for Christmas, and want to know if any particular strings are good for funk and jazz and such?
He's pretty into RHCP, Blink 182, and Rush if that'll somehow help.
Cheers! |

Seriously, though, they are really nice strings. I've never had them on my Jazzes but I put them on both Stingrays I've had and they sound fantastic. They pretty high tension though, so that may or not be an issue (not for me, I prefer that).

| | | | He's got a Squire Jazz bass, the one in natural finish.
I think it's a shorter scale, i'm sure it's not a 34". |

However, SX has a short-scale Jazz.

I just changed out my strings (today) with some Dunlop Stainless lights (40-60-80-100) on my VM J. They were $10 a set at zZounds. Previously I was thinking about selling this bass but OMG what a difference. I had some Dean Markley Nickels on it before, and XL's, and Blue Steels and no matter how much I tweaked this bass I could not get a good tone or get rid of buzzing frets. What a difference in tone BUT I also was able to lower the action SUBSTANTIALLY. I never thought that finding the right string could make so much of a difference in playability in addition to tone. I may be thinking twice about selling now and I think at least for this bass I have found the right strings. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
